Why a closet cleanout is a must?

This simple guide to do a closet cleanout and deep clean and organize your closet fast is something all closets need.

If you want to make your home a better place for you and others, then cleaning out the closets is one of the best things you can do that will help.

Plus when it comes to living our dream life, chances are, being organized is a big part of that dream.

And we do ourselves a real disservice if we have our clothing pile up into a heaping pile of mess, especially every time we go looking for something to wear!

This is why organizing and doing a closet cleanout is very popular.

Having simple and easy organization strategies for every part of our lives (including our closets) will help make life just that much more coordinated and streamlined.

Once life is simpler for us, the easier life will be when it comes to pursuing our biggest goals and aspirations.

So to help you out with this unorganized or potentially messy area in your home life, let’s get your closet deep cleaned, organized, and do a closet cleanout the right way, that way you can scratch this closet cleanout off of your list of home chores.

How a closet cleanout will keep your clothes fresh?

Are you looking for ways to keep your clothes fresher longer? If so, then one way is by properly storing them in an organized closet. This also means not just tossing all of the clothing into a big pile in the back of your closet. This is because clothes that are not correctly stored will wear and tear easily and develop odors.

  • Saves you time:  When you get ready for your day you want to be able to grab things on the fly.
  • Saves you money:  You’ll notice that you’ll stop purchasing the same items because you know what you have.
  • It’ll be easier to identify what you need: When your wardrobe needs updating, you’ll know exactly what you need.
  • It’ll be easier to recognize if it’s really YOU: Your wardrobe is a true reflection of you… so if it looks like someone else’s closet, know that you can easily change that!
  • You will feel accomplished:  Your closet will look like a little boutique space that you will be proud of.

How not cleaning your closet could be costing you money?

In most cases, clutter can have a negative impact on your budget when it comes to cleaning out any space in your home.

You will find that everything is more spacious when you organize your closets and drawers. This means less time and manual labor.

This also means that closet organizing can save you time and money because you will know where everything is and you won’t have to buy duplicate items when looking for something in a rush.

Many people don’t realize how clutter is costing them their hard-earned cash. But organizing and doing a closet cleanout can help!

Top Four Closet cleanout hacks for a fast closet rehaul.

1. An inexpensive solution for storing scarves.

Keeping a scarf in good condition is difficult, especially if you’re not sure of where to store it.

Attaching a few shower curtain rings or curtain clips to the bottom of a hanger is one of the better methods suggested by a few home organizing experts.

Simply thread a scarf around each ring and hang it alongside your other garments!

Your scarves will remain wrinkle-free and noticeable. You can also purchase a scarf hanger if DIY is not your forte.

2. Get rid of smells in your closet.

Whether you store these aromatic sachets in your dresser drawer, wardrobe, or luggage, they help keep your clothes smelling oh-so-lovely long after they’ve been removed.

Also, for those that like great-smelling perfume, these clothing sachets are a great way to smell amazing on the go!

3. Store small forgotten and lost items.

If you’re having difficulty keeping track of your sneakers, socks, clutches, and other tiny objects, consider an over-the-door pocket organizer.

They’re a low-cost way to expand the storage space in your wardrobe.

Additionally, since they hang over the back of your closet door frame, you won’t be thinking about stuffing your closet rod with additional products.

Having additional space for clothing is always a plus when you are short on space!

4. Closet organizers are popular for a reason.

Closet organizers are not just about making it easier on yourself when looking for clothes in the morning time (although they do this very well), they also function as extra storage spaces, so your house doesn’t collect all that extra clutter.

Closet organizers also make it so much easier to find the perfect outfit in your closet, whether you need something for work or school.

They help make clothes last longer by letting them air out and preventing wrinkles from forming over time. Closets with open shelving are also great because they allow clothing to “breathe” and provide a clear view of what you have.

So on the off chance, you can invest in a closet organizer, it will not only help with the organization by providing more storage space, especially in small closets but will make everything look cohesive and organized.

How to free up more closet space?

When it comes to freeing up closet space, there are a few little things that you can do to free up even the smallest of closets.

This will make space for everything you own and are great closet space tips that’ll make your closet feel roomier:

  • Extra hangers: Extra hangers are a total eyesore when they are hanging in your closet and taking up too much space (especially the metal ones). Make an intentional choice to go through your closet and discard the extra hangers that you dislike and that brings down the closet vibe you are striving to have.
  • Worn-out belts: Belts that are cracked, worn out, or completely out of style.
  • Undergarments: Underwear and bras can wear out super fast, so this time is the best time to purge them if you can.
  • Gloves, scarfs, hats: These take up too much space and are better stored in the front hallway closet.
  • Broken and tarnished jewelry: If you haven’t fixed that broken necklace in years, you probably won’t fix it.
  • Socks with holes or a lost companion: Ditch the socks that take too much space and either trash or upcycle them.

How to deep clean your closet in under an hour.

Step 1. Put on some music. First, get your environment feeling right before you tackle your closet. You must set the tone. The best music should be uplifting and fun! Not something that will get you thinking too much like sappy heartbreak songs. Upbeat is always BEST!

Step 2. Set aside some time, and get some boxes/bags. Begin by setting aside some time to really give your full attention to cleaning out your closet. Make sure you have boxes and garbage bags ready for the purge.

Step 3. Take Everything OUT. Take out all of your clothes where you store them. That means even your drawers, any boxes or crates, and seasonal items. EVERYTHING.

Step 4. Make a pile for ‘keeps’, a pile for ‘donating’ or gift to someone you know. Start by removing off the clothes from your closet that are faded, stained, or ripped. Make a pile to ‘keep’, a pile for donating/gifting, and a pile to trash.

Step 5. Pick each item up and try them on to see if they still fit. This is the BEST time to discover if your shorts are too tight or your dresses have seen their days. When in doubt try it on!

Step 6. Keep any clothing that fits and that you still enjoy. Anything else that doesn’t fit or you haven’t worn in a year, should filter down to the ‘Give’ pile.

Step 7. Put your ‘no’ pile clothes into a separate box. After you know exactly what you want to trash/donate, and for those of you that find it hard to give things away/throw out, this tip is for you!  This is so you won’t suffer from decluttering remorse (yes, that’s a thing!). Store your “no pile” in a box and see if you need it for a couple of weeks.

Step 8. Only trash clothes as the last resort! Remove those items which you no longer take into use and ONLY trash old clothes that are beyond repairable. If someone else can benefit from it? It’s best to donate it.

Step 9. Store your clothes by category. Do you live somewhere seasonal? If so, then store your clothes by category/season. If you lack storage in your space, then it’s best to thin out/donate as much as you can to save space. Get your boxes all ready for storage before you start reorganizing.

Step 1. Start deep cleaning your closet first. Now that all of your ‘stuff’ is out, this is the best time to clean out your closet so you won’t have to do it for another six months. All you need is one part vinegar and one part water in a spray bottle and spray down your closet getting rid of cobwebs, dust, and mildew.

Step 2. Group your items. This part is fun because you can hang your garments where it makes the MOST sense to you! Your dresses can be all together, your business attire can all hang together, jeans, and so on.

Step 3. Color code if you don’t want to group. If you are going for a look within your closet or love placing things together for visual purposes? You’ll love color-coding your clothes! Just make sure it makes the most sense to you and that you’ll remember that you placed a yellow tank next to a yellow sweater.

Step 4. Neatly hang and organize it in a tidy way. This helps in offering more room for your clothes while also supplying healthy energy and air due to all the new fresh space you have created.

Step 5. Build an extra rod space if your closet can handle it. Did you know that you can place a rod lower than the main one in your closet? This lower rod is great for shorter shirts, folded jeans on hangers, or other clothes that will not hit the floor!

There you have it!

This is why cleaning and decluttering are a thing. You will feel mentally relieved after you are able to actually find things that you want to wear.

Plus, who wants to hunt for something to wear the day of, only to be disappointed!

Make the closet of your dreams by implementing a few of these closet hacks to help make your closet more cohesive and organized!
