1. Have a compelling reason to wake up feeling happy.

You might not need a reason to wake up in the morning, but if you want an extra push to feel more energized and optimistic about life then it’s worth exploring what motivates you.

I know for me when I’m passionate about something – good things happen!

Whether that is winning time back from frustrating projects on which I have been procrastinating or it’s an eagerness to get out of bed to go to the beach with my dog Radar for the day.

Whatever drives you, make sure it gives you enough energy each morning so you can take charge of your mornings!

Maybe it’s a passion project that you have been putting off?  Or maybe it’s to win back time with your kids?

Whatever your reason; if it gives you that extra motivation and drives you to take charge of your mornings, then that’s the best place to start.

2. Find out how much sleep actually need.

How much sleep should you get each night? Did you know you can get too much sleep?

Research has shown that sleep loss contributes to symptoms of exhaustion during the day while sleeping too much can have negative effects on your mental health.

The best amount of sleep is between 7-9 hours. To determine the ideal hours for your body, you will need to keep a sleep journal. This will help you to identify the best hours to sleep.

Try to pay attention to when you feel most energetic too, and measure how much sleep you had the night before.

3. Begin your day with gratitude.

Experts recommend that you get up and out of bed by thinking about all the things you are grateful for.

This should be one of the first thoughts that come to your mind when you open your eyes. Repeating positive thoughts throughout the day will make it even better.

You could feel grateful for something small and insignificant, like a roof over your head, or you could feel very grateful for something important, such as beating an illness.

You could be proud of something you did in your childhood or think about a great thing that happened to you last week.

It doesn’t matter what you choose, as long as your mornings are filled with gratitude.

4. Get your muscles moving as soon as you can.

Stretching can be a great way to relieve stress and aches that you may have from the night before

It can also help improve blood flow and refresh the body. This is a great way for you to feel a bit happier each morning.

5. Get rid of the snooze button.

Experts in sleep suggest that if you want to be in control of your mornings, and have joy again, hitting the snooze button multiple times is not a good idea.

It’s common for us all: to press the snooze button.

But you must let your alarm know who is boss by either counting backward from five to zero and then standing straight-up afterward or placing your alarm in another room so you have to stand up and walk to it when turning it off.

6. Eat healthy fats early in the day.

Healthy fats are a great way to give your body more longevity. This will help you feel happier and provide fuel for the day ahead.

These healthy fats are great for your brain and mood and will help you conquer the day:

    • Avocados
    • Cheese
    • Dark Chocolate
    • Whole Eggs
    • Fatty Fish
    • Nuts
    • Chia Seeds
    • Extra Virgin Olive Oil

7. Turn your positive energy inward.

Did you know that washing your face can wake you up quicker than drinking coffee? And you can trick your brain to think happier thoughts by smiling all the time!

We all know it can be difficult to get out of bed every morning.

However, if we go to the bathroom, rinse our faces with cold, invigorating water and tell ourselves three positive things about ourselves, it will make the day start off right.

Be mindful of your words and be kind to yourself. Smile as you go. This trick will make you happy and happy quickly.

8. Make Your body feel more energized.

Nothing can beat the satisfaction of a workout. It makes you feel more energetic and happier and the benefits can last for hours.

Whatever your preferred fitness regimen, do something today to get your body moving.

To make your mornings more enjoyable, you can try anything from strength training or yoga to a quick walk around the block.

*Bonus! Create a master checklist to feel less stressed out.

One more thing! You have to be aware that the design and implementation of a master checklist (for the day ahead) are extremely important if you want to achieve your goals.

The good news, it’s pretty basic and rather simple to create a master checklist.

All you need is to create a list of your most important tasks (hopefully the night prior) and leave it right beside your alarm so you can grab it first thing upon awakening.

Remember, humans thrive off of routines and if your master checklist is already outlined for you, you’ll be much better equipped to know how your day will pan out.

This will allow you to be a little more in control of your destiny. And it will, hopefully, make you smile a little more each morning, too.

That’s it. It’s possible to wake up feeling good in the mornings, but it is not something you can do by accident.

It’s not enough to just wish that you wake up happy and smiling. You have to make an effort to do so!

That’s why these morning tips can help make your mornings a lot more enjoyable.
